Meiji Period Shou Sugi Ban Bo Dansu From Sakata Ceramics The dimensions of this benchHere we have a striking antique, Japanese Bo Dansu, dating back to the Meiji period (1868 1912). Constructed by a team of three talented artisans; a carpenter, ironworkers and a lacquer worker using kiri (paulownia wood) favoured for its natural moisture regulating and insect repelling properties. The chest is heavily adorned with hand forged iron fittings, practically focussing on the central bo (locking bar) which features the ivy family crest,
